Christmas is in the air. The holiday season is upon us. And for many of us that will mean that it’s time to welcome friends and family into our homes.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned host, the most important thing to remember is to stay calm and enjoy yourself during this period. And property automation is key to enabling such a zen state, knowing that your guests are well-taken care of.

From smart locks and lights to security cameras and smart vacuums, there are a wide range of home automation technologies that can help make your out-of-town and party guests feel secure and at home.

At the same time, smart tech completely takes the hassle out of hosting.

On that note, here are the ABCs (access, baseline tech, and comfort) of being a smart host:

Access

It’s the festive season. People are sure to be going in and out of your home very often. Be it guests or delivery people, you don’t want to keep rushing to the door every second of the day. And for long-term guests, you may be worrying about getting spare sets of keys made or changing locks if the keys are lost.

To save you all this trouble, we recommend the incorporation of keyless entry technology into your smart home multifamily unit.

Once this proptech is implemented, all you need to do is share a unique access code with guests that is valid for the duration of their stay. This will allow them to come and go as they please, without waiting on you.

Baseline tech

We live in a teched-up world. So, your guests, who are likely to be used to having access to the basic daily tech, will expect the same at your home. For one, they will definitely want access to WiFi during the holidays. You can make it easy for them to connect to the internet by leaving a note in the spare room with the password.

Also, make sure that there is convenient access to mobile and laptop charging points. Perhaps, leave a charger in the spare room, or go the extra mile and set up a designated charging station and offer an in-room smart speaker for the guests to use.

All this is especially important if you are planning to host Gen Z guests, who have literally grown up on smartphones and virtual assistant technologies.

Finally, be sure to set-up and engage your home smart security system so that your guests can sleep soundly at night without worries about fires, gas leaks, or threats from miscreants wandering into the house.

Comfort

Property automation can add a lot of convenience and comfort into your life and that of your guests. Think smart vacuums that clean the home while you bake holiday goodies. Or a pre-programmed WiFi coffee maker that concocts a fresh brew for your guests, so that you can sleep in a little longer.

You also don’t want your guests feeling uncomfortably cold or hot this holiday season. So, put a temperature sensor in the spare room to ensure that the space stays at a comfortable temperature.

Smart HVAC solutions will also enable guests to adjust temperatures with just a click of their smartphones.
